The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field based medical role responsible for engaging with healthcare professionals (HCPs) in their territory through appropriate high level scientific exchange of information, education, publications, evidence generation and other such non-promotional medical affairs activities in a fair, balanced, credible and non-promotional manner.

To be successful, the MSL:

•             Works to ensure that any unsolicited request for information from HCPs is provided in an accurate, unbiased and non-promotional manner and most importantly in accordance with the local country/ regional code of practice (for example ABPI/ EFPIA) and Teva internal policy

•             Provide scientific and technical support for, and maintain, credible, professional relations with clinicians, local decision-makers, external experts and academic centers

•             Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the designated disease area/Teva products and its competitive landscape along with their local healthcare economy

•             Document field generated scientific insights within appropriate system(if applicable), and communicate to appropriate internal stakeholders, as required.

•             Participate in the discussion of scientific insights gathered by the Therapeutic Area team, in order to understand the breadth of insights, potential impact, and to stimulate scientific exploration across the company organization

•             Works collaboratively and cross-functionally with other internal colleagues to deliver excellent customer experience

•             Produce and update scientific presentations for the assigned therapy area, as appropriate

•             Attend national and international congresses as needed, and subsequently disseminate pertinent information both internally and externally (where appropriate) in a compliant manner

•             Provide (or support the trainer)  therapy area and product specific training to appropriate office and field based Teva personnel

•             Understands the broader business strategy and provides scientific support to enable compliant delivery aligned with the medical plan

•             Identify and partner with key external stakeholders to broaden clinical experience and knowledge, identify gaps in clinical data and when requested facilitate further clinical studies and advisory boards

•             Review promotional and educational materials (as appropriate and where required) in line with the local regulations and code of practice

•             Leverage a variety of channels, including digital, to engage with external stakeholders, in line with Teva internal policy to maximize customer experience



Legitimate scientific exchange with HCPs

  • Respond to HCP request for scientific information in relation to on and off-label or disease state, on existing or future products/ pipeline in a professional and timely manner
  • Deliver credible, fair balanced and unbiased clinical/ scientific presentations
  • Active participation at scientific congresses for the purpose of reactively engaging with HCPs and providing post-congress summaries and critical insights to internal colleagues in a timely manner
  • Active involvement in planning, organization and execution of medical/ scientific advisory boards

Provide information and technical support to HCPs

Including but not limited to

  • Significant changes in marketing authorization (in relation to safety in particular)
  • Scientific publication relating to the therapy area or a product (provided this falls within the product’s marketing authorization)
  • To provide legitimate and balanced scientific support to HCPs who act a speakers at Teva sponsored meetings

Clinical trial coordination and evidence generation

  • Works closely with Teva clinical operations to identify/propose potential study sites for Teva sponsored studies and contribute to any necessary follow-ups
  • Conduct clinical trial site visits to provide medical support and handle any potential trial related queries where appropriate
  • Serve as a first point of contact for HCPs proposing investigator sponsored studies (ISS) and acts as a conduit between Teva medical affairs and the HCPs, by providing updates on progress and communicating the decision in a professional manner

Internal collaboration

  • Identify and map key external experts/ institutions in specific disease areas and share the information appropriately
  • Contribute to the development of brand medical plan in line with the brand strategy and effectively execute the plan at a local territory level
  • Keep abreast of the evolving evidence in the areas of critical interest to Teva and ensure this is shared with appropriate personnel on a regular basis
  • Take personal responsibility for updating knowledge on an ongoing basis and share learnings and best practices across boundaries with the wider team
  • Act as a primary or secondary medical scientific educator for members of the sales force in updating them on any disease state, therapy area, Teva products, scientific updates, reviews and so on
  • Identify unmet medical needs and contributes to the development of the medical plan

Maintain compliance

  • Is fully aware of and abide by the requirements of the local country code of practice (such as the ABPI) including but not restricted to maintaining high professional standards of conduct, in line with company policies and procedures with a duty of care to the reputation of the organization


  • MD, Pharm D, PhD, or educated to a degree level or equivalent with a scientific qualification
  • Ideally 1-3 years of pharmaceutical industry experience; clinical experience within relevant therapy area preferred
  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory process, local/ national healthcare economy and the pharmaceutical industry code of conduct (such as ABPI/ EFPIA Code)
  • Deep understanding and thorough knowledge of the relevant disease area
  • Evidence of successful career in an MSL or other non-promotional role within the pharmaceutical industry, or equivalent experience from outside the industry would be ideal
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to synthesize complex scientific information and communicate it effectively at a peer to peer level with HCPs
  • Ability to collaborate and share information to contribute to the planning process and execute the agreed medical plan in line with the brand / therapy area objectives
  • Able to work effectively in a matrix organisation
  • Knowledge, ability and willingness to engage with customers using traditional as well as novel digital channels
  • Excellent IT skills with the ability to work effectively with and leverage modern technology

Other Requirements:

  • This is a field based role with significant domestic (and occasional international) travel exceeding 60-70% of the work week and occasional weekend for conferences/ meetings.
  • Full and clean driving license issued by the relevant local government authority
