Job Description

Teva’s Global Research & Development (R&D) organization is devoted to the development of new medicines, devices and combination products that provide meaningful therapeutic benefit to patients worldwide. Combining creativity, scientific rigor and our extensive knowledge on a broad range of technologies, our scientists, engineers, medical doctors and project leaders across the globe use their expertise to innovate novel biologics, biosimilars, small molecule specialty medicines, generics and over-the-counter therapies.

 

As a Senior Biological Researcher you will work in the department of Upstream Development and Operations at Teva. Responsibilities include supporting operation of bench and pilot scale fermenters and bioreactors for recombinant protein and/or antibody expression in microbial or mammalian host systems You will support cell culture process scale-up and technology transfer to cGMP manufacturing facilities on early and late stage projects in Teva’s biologics pipeline.

 

In addition you will be expected to independently operate bench (<10L) and pilot scale (<200L) bioreactors, including proactive planning, and successful execution of complex experimental protocols for process scale-up and technology assessment. You will be participating in project governance teams as the departmental representative.

 

Other duties:
1. Execute bench & pilot-scale mammalian cell culture process development experiments for recombinant therapeutic protein expression 

  • Develop an experimental plan and be able to execute cell culture and fermentation studies in laboratory either individually or in teams
  • Support a compliant laboratory operation in accordance with SOPs, internal procedures and policies
  • Perform routine laboratory operations such as seed culture expansion in shake flasks and bioreactors, production cultures in 1 L - 200 L stirred tank and single use bioreactors, product harvest, routine in-process analytical testing, etc.
  • Support process optimization and process characterization work to develop scalable and manufacturing friendly processes

 

2. Support fermentation process scale-up

  • Follow the instructions and execute scale-up studies in a process scale-up laboratory using 1- 200 L bioreactors
  • Perform equipment set-up, sterilization, daily operation, sampling and in-process analytical testing
  • Perform upkeep and minor maintenance of equipment

Qualifications


What you will bring to the role:

  • BS in Biology, Biochemistry or Chemical/Biochemical engineering or in a related life-sciences field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in cell culture/fermentation process development and/or manufacturing sciences supporting cell culture operation in the biopharmaceutical/biotechnology industry.
  • Minimum 1 years of hand-on experience in process scale-up or operation of large-scale bioreactors and cell culture equipment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Biology, Biochemistry or Chemical/Biochemical engineering or in a related life-sciences field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in cell culture process development and/or manufacturing sciences supporting cell culture operation in the biopharmaceutical/biotechnology industry
  • Hands-on experience with in-process analytical testing and analytical instrumentation such as cell counters and instruments for metabolite analysis
  • Experience with set-up, operation and control of harvest process equipment (e.g., continuous disc stack centrifuges) is desirable
  • Experience with various expression systems for recombinant proteins (e.g., microbial, mammalian, etc.)
