Job Description

At Biologics CMC, our mission is to support TEVA’s commitment to improving health and increasing access to quality medicines worldwide. We are responsible for the development of both innovative biologics and biosimilars. Currently, we are developing products in various stages of clinical development from IND through BLA filing. The Associate Scientist will play a key role within the Process Development team, leading mammalian cell culture activities to support TEVA’s drug product pipeline.

 

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join us as an Associate Scientist in the Upstream Process Development team within Biologics CMC, located in West Chester, PA. The successful candidate independently designs, executes and interprets complex laboratory experiments with priorities set by the supervisor to achieve project goals. The individual demonstrates an in-depth understanding of cell culture and process development and applies knowledge in support of product development and new technologies. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to, the execution of mammalian cell culture and process development, design of experiments to drive process understanding, process characterization, and development of process control strategies from early-stage development through commercial launch.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Independently design and conduct experiments for upstream process development with strong scientific rationales.
  • In-depth knowledge of medium and feed development, process optimization and scale-up for mammalian cell culture 
  • Perform experiments in shaker flasks and bioreactors (Ambr 250, 3L, 50L, and 200L). 
  • Must be a self-starter, be able to work with minimal supervision in a matrix environment and effectively manage multiple projects
  • Solves complex problems through analytical thinking to identify and understand alternatives using knowledge gained through formal education, experience and sound judgment. Summarizes results in written reports and oral presentations.
  • Ensure effective information flow, timeline execution, troubleshooting, and issue resolution in a multi-disciplinary matrix organization.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • MS in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering/Biotechnology or related field with a minimum 4 years of experience in cell culture and process development or BS with a minimum 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience with process design, automation, media, and feed design/optimization.
  • Working knowledge of cell culture bioreactors and analytical techniques for product characterization.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Familiarity with the cGMP principles is preferred but not required
