Job Description

Teva's global R&D is hiring a Principal Scientist or Manager to join the Translational Statistics and Bioinformatics team.  This will be a critical position responsible and accountable for designing and analyzing Translational Medicine (TM) studies and serving as the point person for scientific advice on statistics, machine learning, deep learning, and computational biology considerations unique to biomarker studies and beyond. Teva's innovative portfolio is currently primarily focused on the Neuroscience and Respiratory therapy areas.




  • Act as a project champion within the Translational Statistics and Bioinformatics team and support biomarker and machine learning activities within Global Statistics
  • Provide high-quality statistical, computational and biomarker consultation and services to all Teams from discovery through POC to loss of exclusivity
  • Consistently employ innovative study designs and the best statistical and computational practices for data analysis and interpretation in order to maximize the value of our medicines
  • Report to the head of Translational Statistics
  • Partners with statistics, discovery and clinical development matrix teams
  • Contribute to developing machine learning, AI and large data storage company-wide solutions and build data visualization tools
  • Work closely in collaboration with the TM experts to design and execute pharmacogenomics and biomarker studies, including targeted genotyping, GWAS, whole genome sequencing, RNA expression, protein expression and other biomarkers of interest; analyze publicly available genomic datasets for target validation
  • Work with TM experts, discovery scientists and clinical teams to provide genomic evidence for drug target validation, repurposing,  predict potential on-target drug safety risk and support asset transition from pre-clinical to clinical development
  • Advise on statistical, machine learning and bioinformatics methodology, including program and study design, data analysis and multivariate predictive modeling
  • Support QC of vendors and methodology across the continuum of TM modalities
  • Manage and oversee outsourced activities when needed
  • Responsible to keep up to date on cutting edge technologies and methodologies, providing timely reports to stakeholders and Global Statistics department and regarding novel approaches and potential utility to Teva’s pipeline
  • Proactively identify challenges and develop contingency plans as appropriate
  • Promote great science, innovation, efficient design and quantitative decision making in partnership with other lines
  • Encourage and support business-aligned publication of innovative science and statistical/computational application
  • Support the creation and maintenance of a network of world-leading external statistical, machine learning and AI advisors and consultants with focus on TM and Bioinformatics


  • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Data science, Biostatistics/Bioinformatics or similar with 1-5 years of post-graduation experience
  • A broad understanding of the statistics, machine learning, deep learning algorithm theory
  • Experience in large scale omics data analysis,  pathways analysis, data mining, biological network construction/interpretation with the ability to apply these to scientific problems
  • Familiar with various publicly available omics datasets and experience in performing across database analysis and extract insightful disease/biology information
  • Well versed in statistical, bioinformatics and machine learning methodology and implementation, data mining and visualization
  • A track record of sustained delivery and innovation within the discipline
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team
  • Knowledge in discovery, translational medicine, biomarkers, pharmacogenetics / genomics, and clinical development
  • Proficiency in R, Python programming required, as well as UNIX/LINUX, Oracle and/or MySQL, SAS, C++, Java
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to influence widely
  • Experience in coordinating statistical, machine learning, AI support for a multifaceted project, including managing outsourced services
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to see the big picture and think strategically
  • Able to prioritize and drive to results with a high emphasis on quality
