The opportunity
This position will provide an introduction to pharmaceutical and bioanalytical sciences. The summer intern will learn and carry out assay support for ongoing research projects. They will participate in the development and qualification of serum/plasma and/or tissue biomarker assays. The Intern will also support general laboratory activities as directed by his/her supervisor.
Location: West Chester, PA
Length: minimum of 12 weeks (TBD during mid-May through mid-August)
Schedule: You must be available to work a 40-hour work week for 12 weeks
How you’ll spend your day
Tasks & responsibilities
• During the 12 week program, you will gain in-depth insight into the Biomarker and Metabolism Analytics/DMPK department.
• Supported by a mentor and experienced colleagues, you will be directly involved in our daily business and be assigned tasks within diverse projects.
• You will also play an important role in the development of concepts and initiatives within the Biomarker and Metabolism Analytics in Research & Development business unit.
• Conducts laboratory experiments according to established protocols under supervision.
• Accurately records experimental data and results in laboratory notebook.
• Clearly communicates experimental results to supervisor/manager.
• Analyzes experimental data using applicable instrument software and spreadsheets, performs basic statistical analyses, graphs data and prepare slides for scientific presentations.
• Maintains organization and cleanliness of lab work area and follows all established site laboratory safety practices.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
• May attend short training courses.
Physical Requirements
The position requires extensive bench work in the laboratory as well as work with computers. Computer usage requires repetitive hand motions associated with keyboard typing and use of the mouse. Laboratory work requires standing for long periods of time and repetitive hand motions associated with using pipettes. Laboratory work also requires occasional lifting, reaching, climbing on a step stool and other limited physical activities. Personnel are all required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize exposure to chemical and biological hazards in the laboratory.
Your experience and qualifications
Qualifications
• Currently enrolled in a B.A. or B.S. program in biochemistry, biology or relevant biological science, and completed at least one year of college-level coursework
• Completion of some college-level laboratory coursework preferred
