The opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join us as a BioProcess Intern, Upstream Process Development within Biologics CMC, located in West Chester, PA. The successful candidate will work as part of a team within upstream process development and execute experimental studies aimed at developing cell separation/ clarification processes. The candidate will support routine cell culture maintenance (in bioreactors), execute cell separation/ clarification studies, and perform data analysis. At the end of the internship, the candidate will present the work in a cross-functional meeting and write a technical report. 

How you’ll spend your day

1.    Support mammalian cell culture process development of recombinant therapeutic proteins:
- Establish experimental plans with managerial guidance.
- Independently execute experiments with end-to-end responsibility and minimal supervision.
- Perform routine cell culture maintenance & seed culture expansion to support bioreactor runs
- Perform cell culture experiments in bioreactors ranging from small scale (>10L) to pilot scale (50-200L) 
- Perform cell separation and clarification experiments (with guidance) utilizing analytical instrumentation  
- Maintain accurate lab notebooks and perform data analysis 
- Perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Maintain a compliant laboratory operation in accordance with protocols, internal procedures and policies

2.    Present technical data in internal group meetings as needed 

Your experience and qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

•    Current Enrollment or recent completion in BS/MS program for Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering or related field of study
•    Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative skills is required
•    The candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work effectively in a team and independently under general supervision.
•    Must be a self-starter, works independently while contributing to the team goals
•    Proven leadership/participation with campus programs and/or community service activities is desired
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

•    Completed Cellular Biology Coursework 
•    Experienced in biology related lab work (academic or research related)
o    Experience with cell culture and/or separation is a plus
