Our Cell Culture Process Development (CCPD) team is seeking a highly motivated summer intern who will work and collaborate in a team environment at our state-of-the-art R&D facility to develop novel processes and solve key challenges in biopharmaceuticals development and manufacturing. CCPD is responsible for developing upstream manufacturing processes and associated cell culture process technologies for our company’s biologics production pipeline. Summer intern will be exposed to:
- Fundamentals knowledge and hands-on experience of modern bioprocessing, with a focus on cell culture process development at various scales
- State-of-the-art bioprocessing approaches, automation, and high-throughput technologies and equipment currently used for manufacturing novel biopharmaceuticals
The Summer intern will have the opportunity to develop, test, and evaluate predictive models to drive cell culture process optimization for higher throughput and accelerated drug development. This exciting opportunity will provide the student a hybrid-formatted experience in both computational and wet chemistry complementary experimentation in USPD.
Location: West Chester, PA (on-site)
Duration: 12 weeks
Schedule: You must be available to work a 40-hour work week (onsite) for 12 weeks
How you’ll spend your day
- During the 12-week program, you will gain in-depth insight into the Cell Culture Process Development in the USPD team.
- Supported by a mentor and experienced colleagues, you will be directly involved in our daily business and be assigned tasks within diverse projects.
- The intern position is research-based position working with a mentor to generate and test computational models for fed-batch bioreactor processes.
- The intern would be responsible for accurate electronic lab notebook (ELN) recording and experimental data and analysis, as well as adhering to all safety, compliance, and corporation regulations.
- Presentation of work in a group setting is expected.
- You will also play an important role in the development of concepts and initiatives within the BioCMC business unit.
Your experience and qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate (B.S.) or a graduate program (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Biochemistry, and any related field with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Fundamental understanding and/or experience in bioreactor design is required.
- Candidates must have knowledge and/or hands-on experience in mammalian cell cultures.
- Fundamental knowledge in Design of Experiments (DoE) and statistical analysis is required.
- Fundamental understanding in data science, process modeling, computational simulation, and/or machine learning is highly desirable.
- Previous experience in electronic lab notebook (ELN) and data recording is desirable.
- Knowledge and/or experience in scaling up/down cell culture processes is desirable.
