The Position

 

Teva Pharmaceuticals Australia is currently in need of a dynamic and highly motivated Research Scientist to be part of our Cell Line Development team, located in our state-of-the-art laboratories in Macquarie Park, Sydney. This role will be responsible for characterising, engineering and optimizing protein expression in stable cell lines suitable for use in GMP manufacture of antibody therapeutics and will focus on Quantitative Cell Biology / Gene expression / Genetics / or related fields.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Hands-on laboratory-based role within the cell line discovery  team requiring the following capabilities and responsibilities:
    • Execute Cell Line Development projects to express therapeutic antibodies.
    • Design, test and sub-clone DNA vectors.
    • Optimize, test and perform both transient and stable transfections of mammalian cell lines.
    • Substantial cell culture maintenance and analysis.
    • Isolation of single cells to derive clonal cell lines.
    • Genetic analysis of clonal cell lines.

    • Support all phases of the product candidate lifecycle undertaken by the Cell Line Development team (including cell line development, upstream processes, purification, characterization and material supply).
    • Manage complex resources including reagent supply chains, instrument availability, and Contract Research Organisations to deliver cell lines to deadline.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to meet site-wide KPIs.
    • Research, plan and execute new workflows in the areas of molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, and single-cell cloning and imaging technologies.
    • Research, present and introduce new technologies and instruments to increase team capacity.
    • Mentorship, supervision and training of junior scientists to pursue Research and Development goals within Cell Line Development.
    • Preparation of submission-ready reports to support regulatory submissions.
    • Support a culture of quantitative data analysis to make data-driven decisions.
    • Provide scientific/technical solutions to a wide range of problems.

  • Summarize data as required (e.g. electronic lab notebook, presentations, and reports).
  • Corporate citizenship, including serving on in-house committees and leading internal presentations to stakeholders.
  • Represent the cell line development team with internal & external stakeholders, as required.
  • Comply with all site’s policies and procedures.

The Successful Candidate

 

  • A BSc (Honours) in Life Sciences
  • PhD will be highly regarded but not required

Professional Experience

    •  5-8 years relevant experience in  ether Cell Line Development, Gene Expression, Cell biology and related technology experience 
    •  A demonstrated experience manipulating mammalian gene expression using expertise in: molecular biology; or cell biology, or genomics
    • Experience with bioinformatics, computational biology or coding tools desirable
    • Good knowledge of protein production, purification and characterization methods
    • Experience with statistical analyses of quantitative data

    •  Be highly motivated and capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills
    • Good record keeping (laboratory books) and report writing
