The opportunity

We are seeking a Research Assistant with 2 years prior laboratory experience and a ‘can-do attitude’ to join TEVA’s growing speciality R&D antibody discovery program in Sydney, Australia. In this role, you will be developing therapeutic antibodies in state-of-the-art facilities within the Immunology portfolio. 

 

As part of the Immunology pre-clinical pharmacology team, you would be involved in providing pre-clinical in vitro pharmacology data that supports all stages of a preclinical drug development package. This will involve working collaboratively across multi-functional teams including antibody lead generation and protein sciences to support: lead selection; early-stage proof of concept studies; high quality pre-clinical in vitro and ex vivo pharmacology, including mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics and biomarker evaluation.

 

This is a permanent, hands-on laboratory-based role, suiting a candidate with a technical mindset and an interest in therapeutic antibody R&D. Specifically the activities will include conducting experiments to support functional characterisation and selection of therapeutic antibodies.

How you’ll spend your day

  • Perform and develop biological assays to inform on lead selection of therapeutic antibodies, including determination of potency, and characterisation of mechanism of action. 
  • Research, trouble-shoot and optimise fit for purpose immunoassays, including biomarker, and pharmacokinetic assays.
  • General tissue culture and maintenance of mammalian cell lines.
  • Summarize and presentation of data (e.g. electronic lab notebook, presentations, and reports).
  • Represent the Discovery Biology team with internal & external stakeholders, as required.
  • Provide general research/laboratory support including maintenance of laboratory reagents, ordering consumables and interacting with suppliers.

Your experience and qualifications

  • BSc in life sciences with a relevant Honours degree
  • Demonstrated experience in immunology or cell biology
  • Experienced with developing and conducting cell based and immunoassays using a variety of techniques
  • Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture. Experience with primary cells is highly desirable
  • Strong problem-solving skills, excellent attention to detail and a positive can-do attitude.
  • Well organized and able to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

 

Desirable

  • Experience in industry-based R&D
  • Experience in flow cytometry
  • Knowledge of molecular and protein biology techniques, including handling and preparation of DNA/RNA, protein expression and purification
