The Senior Director – Strategic Sourcing Lead is responsible for leading and strengthening strategic sourcing execution across Company’s External Manufacturing (EXM) network. This role oversees the External Manufacturing Strategic Sourcing team supporting the Innovative and Biologic sourcing needs and is accountable for delivering consistent, compliant, and effective sourcing and contracting outcomes aligned to established category strategies and business priorities. 

Reporting to the VP Procurement – External Manufacturing & Devices, this role serves as the primary execution leader for sourcing activities, translating category strategies into actionable sourcing plans, contracts, and measurable value. The Senior Director will focus on building sourcing discipline, improving execution rigor, and developing team capability in an evolving procurement environment. 

This role is well suited for a leader who is comfortable being hands-on, operating through ambiguity, and establishing structure, process, and accountability where they are still developing. 

How You’ll Spend Your Day

Strategic Sourcing Execution 

Lead and oversee strategic sourcing and contracting activities across External Manufacturing in alignment with category strategies. 
Translate category strategies into clear sourcing plans, RFx activity, negotiations, and contract outcomes. 
Ensure sourcing deliverables support business priorities including cost, capacity, quality, service, and risk. 
Drive consistent application of sourcing methodologies, tools, and processes across the EXM sourcing team. 
 

Value Delivery & Financial Accountability 

Own delivery of annual sourcing value and savings commitments aligned to Finance targets and business plans. 
Drive year-over-year improvements through cost optimization, sourcing discipline, and contract effectiveness. 
Partner with Finance to support basic value tracking, reporting, and transparency for sourcing outcomes. 
Ensure sourcing outcomes are realistic, measurable, and achievable in execution. 
 

Supplier Sourcing & Contracting 

Lead sourcing engagement with suppliers, including negotiations, commercial discussions, and contracting approaches. 
Ensure contracts reflect business requirements, regulatory standards, and risk considerations. 
Support the development of stronger, more consistent supplier interactions through structured sourcing engagement. 
Maintain awareness of supplier capabilities, capacity constraints, and market conditions relevant to sourcing decisions. 
 

Risk, Compliance & Quality Alignment 

Ensure sourcing activities adhere to quality, regulatory, and compliance requirements for External Manufacturing. 
Identify sourcing-related supply risks and work with cross-functional partners to mitigate them. 
Support supply continuity by ensuring sourcing decisions consider capacity, resilience, and operational feasibility. 

Stakeholder Partnership 

Act as a trusted procurement partner to External Manufacturing and Business Development stakeholders. 
Communicate sourcing priorities, progress, and trade-offs clearly to business leaders. 
Support Business Development initiatives by executing sourcing activities that enable external manufacturing decisions. 
Represent sourcing in cross-functional forums, ensuring execution considerations are understood while both informing and challenging Go-To-Market assumptions. 
 

Team Leadership & Capability Building 

Lead, coach, and develop the Strategic Sourcing team, setting clear expectations and priorities. 
Build sourcing capability through practical coaching, standard work, and execution discipline. 
Establish clearer roles, ways of working, and performance expectations across the sourcing team. 
Foster a culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and delivery. 
 

Process & Continuous Improvement 

Identify opportunities to improve sourcing processes, tools, and ways of working. 
Support gradual adoption of procurement tools, templates, and operating model standards. 
Drive practical improvements in sourcing efficiency, consistency, and compliance. 
Contribute to foundational efforts related to sustainability, supplier diversity, and automation as sourcing capabilities mature. 
 

Your Skills and Experience

Experience & Expertise 

  • Demonstrated experience leading strategic sourcing and contracting teams, preferably supporting External Manufacturing or regulated industries. 
  • Working knowledge of sourcing practices within pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated manufacturing environments. 
  • Experience delivering sourcing value and managing savings commitments. 
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in evolving, matrixed organizations. 

Leadership & Professional Skills 

  • Hands-on, execution-focused leader with strong accountability mindset. 
  • Ability to lead teams through ambiguity and change. 
  • Strong stakeholder communication and influence skills. 
  • Solid financial and commercial acumen. 
  • Ability to create structure, discipline, and clarity in developing environments.  

Education 

  • Master’s degree with 7+ years of relevant experience, or 
  • Bachelor’s degree with 9+ years of relevant experience, or 
  • Associate’s degree with 12+ years of relevant experience 
  • Minimum 3 years of people leadership or equivalent team leadership experience required.

Salary Range

The annual starting salary for this position is between $188,720 – $235,900 annually.  Factors which may affect starting salary within this range and level of role may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
