Job Description

The Director of Advanced Analytics, will be responsible for defining the strategic objectives and requirements of new analytical capabilities that will accelerate insight generation and enhance decision making across the organization. This position will partner with leaders in commercial and other functions to identify business needs and work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to develop state-of-the-art analytical capabilities to address the identified needs 

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Set the vision for the team and ensure the vision aligns to the business priorities and the organization around the vision
  • Hire and lead a team of data scientists / analysts who will address unmet business challenges
  • Lead, manage, develop and motivate individuals to collectively build a high performing team in a rapidly changing, fast paced environment
  • Identify initial analyses that can be completed to demonstrate the utility of advanced / predictive analytics (proofs of concept)
  • Coach & groom the team on gaining knowledge & skills on first principles of analytics techniques, problem solving, project management, client relationship management & team work skills
  • Identify and scope projects that significantly address senior leadership concerns to drive sales/ cost savings, improve processes or create efficiencies, that are un-/under-addressed with existing resources and skill sets
  • Use problem solving methodologies to propose creative solutions and develop data driven analyses using both traditional & advanced analytics methodologies
  • Provide key business insights and intelligence to stakeholders and develop, prioritize and “sell” recommendations to key decision makers
  • Serve as senior level management key point of contact for all development issues, resolving issues timely and collaborating with key stakeholders to enhance business outcomes
  • Provide subject matter expertise to team members and applicable internal / external stakeholders on complex assignments or projects
  • Keep up-to-date on emerging developments and trends in the analytics space to assess the impact on current and future strategies
  • Be a change agent who effectively communicates the vision and implementation roadmap for the new analytical capabilities and gains buy in from stakeholders across the organization
  • Serve as a key member of working groups developing digital platforms / online communities for patients, caregivers and treatment providers to ensure data from these platforms / online communities can be appropriately utilized for insight generation
  • Develop and instill a core innovation and incubation strategy that fosters emerging analytic methods that
  • Serve as an “analytics champion and advocate” for the enterprise educating internal key stakeholders on the impact of applying advanced analytics and predicative modeling

Qualifications

  • Ability to drive and implement complex enterprise-wide change initiatives with executive level stakeholders
  • Proficiency in bringing structure to ambiguous problems and deriving insights from multiple data and information sources
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities with a commitment to delivering on-time and quality results
  • Ability to lead, coordinate and influence the efforts of cross-functional teams
  • Proven experience building and managing analytics teams
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, strategic thinking and ability to work successfully in complex, rapidly changing environments
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills, with strong customer focus and the ability to build strong relationships and networks across the organization and externally
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others at different levels in the organization
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably in business, economics, marketing or a related field
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, and Information Management) or Business Administration is preferred
  • Demonstrated and current expertise in both theory and practical application of applying advanced  / predictive analytics to address business questions & provide actionable recommendations
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in data mining, modeling, strategy design and running data analytics projects that directly align to the responsibilities of this position
  • 5+ years in pharmaceutical / biotechnology / healthcare industry preferred
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience with advanced analytics tools (R, SAS, Python), “big data” technologies, and advanced analytics techniques
  • Knowledge of any one visualization tool such as Tableau, Qlik or equivalent
