Job Description

The Associate Director, Respiratory Advocacy and External Expert Engagement will play a key role in building the Respiratory Portfolio advocacy strategy and establishing key partnerships among thought leaders and advocacy groups at both the franchise and brand level.  The ideal candidate is a strategic self-starter with excellent stakeholder engagement, and experience building and executing external thought leader strategies and programs within the respiratory therapeutic area.

  • Create sustainable long-term relationships, through engagement and collaboration with respiratory and digital health key opinion leaders, medical societies and patient advocacy groups 
  • Coordinate the execution of a robust insight capture plan, including congresses/meetings, key opinion leader engagement, ad boards, advisory councils, third-party insight and/or other channels. Effectively communicate these insights to internal stakeholders and translate them into strategic platforms and tactical plans
  • Assist in the development of peer to peer and medical education program strategy and content across the current portfolio of indications, including speaker program deliverables and strategic and operational oversight of  the Digihaler speaker’s bureau
  • Complete compliance and legal approval applications for all formal engagement with stakeholders outside the organization
  • Develop and lead congress and convention strategy and coordinate execution, including identification of sponsorship opportunities that align with the portfolio and brand strategy
  • Contribute to  long-range strategic plans, annual operational plans, brand strategies and tactical plans
  • Works with agency partners to create, develop and implement strategic and tactical plans
  • Work cross functionally with internal stakeholders including US and global brand directors, medical affairs, legal and compliance to plan and execute advisory boards, summits, conventions, and speaker programs


POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience that fulfills the requirements of the position will be considered. 

Qualifications/Required Experience

  • Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree
  • A minimum of 7 years of pharmaceutical experience including sales experience and/or Medical Science Liaison or thought leader liaison experience
  • A minimum of 4 years of pharmaceutical marketing
  • Experience with engaging KOLs, Advocacy groups and Professional Medical Societies is required


Experience Preferred

  • US Respiratory therapeutic area expertise
  • Established relationships with Allergists and Pulmonologists


  • Demonstrated ability to establish credibility across external and internal stakeholders
  • Role-specific expertise in execution of external expert engagement, advisory boards, peer to peer execution and understanding of legal/regulatory/compliance requirements
  • Clinical aptitude and ability to translate disease and promotional strategies into plans, tactics and discourse
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trusting, collaborative relationships
  • Demonstrated success leading or influencing cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage external agencies, third-party partners and allocated budget


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Willingness to travel domestically up to 35%
