The opportunity

Manager, Environmental Health & Safety
Markham, Ontario 

 

The Manager, Environment Health & Safety will provide hands-on EHS support, coaching and leadership to employees and management in the development, implementation and management of EHS standards and work practices with emphasis on compliance to Regulatory and Company requirements and continuous improvement of the standards and work practices.

How you’ll spend your day

Develop and update the EHS Management System for Teva Canada.
     - Conduct gap assessments against the Global standard, identify gaps and work with appropriate   
        departments to develop and implement the standards.
     - Update current standards every 3 years at minimum or when there is a change.
     - Maintain the risk register.
     - Maintain and implement the Compliance Calendar.
     - Determine new regulatory requirements and work with appropriate departments to implement  
        requirements. 
Complete and submit Environmental regulatory reports to the applicable agencies for Teva Canada.
     - e.g. HWIN, ESDM, AAR, NPRI, TRA, ChemTRAC, Annual ECA summaries, water permits, ECA’s, annual 
       waste audits, water pollution prevention plans.
     - Completion of Global Environmental requirements (Green Report)
Provide hands-on EHS support to site operations
     - Review and approve Harmony Trackwise requests, MOC requests.
     - Conduct periodic assessments of the site’s current compliance to Regulatory and Global 
        requirements. 
     - Provide ergonomic support to the site.
     - Facilitate the JHSC, spill team, fire marshal and first aid teams.
     - Recognize and evaluate new and existing hazards and provide recommendations to Leadership.
     - Coach and train Supervisors on EHS roles and responsibilities
Support Teva Canada’s IH program
     - Develop and maintain the IH program.
     - Work with EHS team to implement, execute and analyze IH results.
Provide training and guidance to EHS Specialists. 
    - Mentor and coach EHS specialists to improve EHS technical skills and role they play in establishing 
       and maintaining the Internal Responsibility system.
Occupational Health Services support. 
     - Ensure accurate and timely completion of Occupational Health Monitoring and support maintaining the OHM   matrix.
     - Provide support on work-related events.
Other related duties as required

Your experience and qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Health and Safety; Masters in Occupational Health or Industrial Hygiene (preferred)
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • CRSP, CIH certification required
  • EHS Management Systems, Environmental Regulations, Auditing
  • Computer skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  
  • Intermediate math skills: Skill in computing moderately complex ratios, rates, statistics, averages and percentages. Knowledge of applying simple quantitative data to create graphs/charts/diagrams. Ability to interpret trends represented in graphs/charts/diagrams/tables.  
  • Required to apply self direction in learning, setting goals and goal achievement. Takes own initiative to complete assignments. 
  • Strong Influencing skills to order to obtain concurrence or buy-in. 
  • Demonstrate a strong ability to express ideas clearly and concisely orally and in writing. Prepare documents that are accurate, clear, logical, well organized and contain proper grammar, punctuation and spelling. 
  • Problem solving: Must demonstrate ability to solve complex/sensitive problems, sometimes using creative thinking to do so. Has an ability to anticipate problems, identify and evaluate potential sources of information. Must demonstrate ability to work effectively on unclear, ambiguous or contradictory problems. Applies several analytic/creative techniques to break apart complex problems into component problems/issues. 
  • Planning/organizational skills: Ability to prioritize, analyze, plan, implement and adjust goals/objectives to meet needs. Accomplish moderately complex tasks simultaneously. Anticipate consequences and negotiate solutions to address various concerns. Frequently measure progress.
  • Periodic travel between sites is required
