The opportunity
The position is based at Tapi’s Japan sales office, Tokyo. As the Head of Sales in North East Asia, you will effectively lead the sales and marketing organization by setting the strategic direction to ensure continued growth and to execute on financial targets of approximately $125M on an annual basis.
This role requires broad scope analysis and understanding of the pharmaceutical market, including its players, products and API competitors in the 3 component markets. Though clubbed together, the 3 component markets are extremely diverse in several aspects such as regulatory framework & practices, competition intensity & value drivers. The candidate is expected to have a deep understanding of the key factors that will drive the organization to success in these markets. Additionally, the candidate is expected to possess the necessary skill set to negotiate win-win results and the ability to see the complete picture, identify opportunities and execute on them in a timely manner. Through strategic thinking and awareness, the incumbent executes on opportunities valuable to the organization, while providing deep insights and recommendations to management.
The ideal candidate should possess strong strategic & leadership skills and the ability to multi-task. The incumbent must be energetic, self-motivated with strong inter-personal skills and able to work under minimal supervision. The candidate needs to be able to work in an organization with a matrix structure with 7 direct reports and 22 indirect.
Incumbent must have an understanding of local logistics regulations in order to assure compliance with the different governmental mandates.
How you'll spend your day
- Drive the go to market and customer strategies. Sets the strategic direction for the continued growth
- Defines the annual sales targets and drives team success towards achievement or exceeding of the goals
- Builds relationships with high level executives within existing and new customers to continue to expand opportunities for growth
- Provides direct leadership to both direct and indirect reports
- Provide input to the new product selection process
- Provide input and direction with the global key accounts along with the other region heads
- Identifies opportunities for growth and drives execution
- Trains, develops and coaches team members to assure success and growth of the team
- Collaborates internally with supply chain, marketing, R&D, RA and other functions to assure effective execution on goals
- Networking in the industry body and trade associations
- Follows Teva Safety, Health, and Environmental policies and procedures
- Travel Requirements: International - 50%
Your experience and qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferably in Chemistry with a masters in Business Management
- A minimum of 15 years of api sales experience across multiple markets with at least 5-8 years of people management experience
- Strong leadership skills and capabilities. Must be a team player
- Strategic thinking capabilities and ability to drive execution on the plan
- Works effectively in a multi-task environment. Modifies plans as situations warrant; establishes and uses alternative plans. Strategically manages time to balance associate needs, business opportunities, and administrative responsibilities
- Possesses knowledge, understanding and experience with international competition, business requirements, dynamics and trade regulations pertaining to own business operations
- Comprehends how to meld cultural differences, international regulations and own company objectives in ways that result in successfully achieving established goals
- Is skilled in discussing, conferring, troubleshooting etc in ways that resolve issues and satisfy all parties. Uses tact, diplomacy and unique persuasion to reach amicable agreements or resolve problems
- Has up to date knowledge of current and emerging technology trends within the industry and understands its implications from a competitive standpoint
- Cultivates and maintains close contact with key information sources (vendors, suppliers, consultants, relevant academic institutions, technical professionals) and reads key publications keeping current on new technological innovations
- Understands strategic implications of such change, and responds appropriately
- Identifies issues and opportunities, prioritizes them, and successfully addresses them
- Uses a variety of cognitive skills and processes to arrive at sound decisions and solutions
- Able to continually focus on achievement of objectives
