Job Description

Teva is searching for a Maintenance Technician III (Utilities & Electrical) to join our team in Irvine!

As a Maintenance Technician III, you are responsible for performing routine & preventive maintenance on the plant electrical system, process control systems; to install, troubleshoot, repair and perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment, instrumentation and analytical equipment, following all applicable electrical codes, manuals, procedures, schematic diagrams, P&ID’s, blueprints and other specifications.

This position supports the operations and maintenance execution of critical plant utility systems and freeze dryer systems while supporting aseptic and packaging manufacturing systems.
You will use your technical knowledge and understanding of pharmaceutical facility and plant utilities systems, such as boilers, water chillers, pumps, cooling towers, HVAC and air compressors as well as clean utilities such as purified water, water for injection, clean steam, clean air and nitrogen generation and distribution systems.  Knowledge of mechanical/electrical/controls design, servicing requirements, and spare parts requirements is essential; including BMS systems.

You will:

  • Serve as the Electrical Subject Matter expert for the site.
  • Troubleshoot, install, maintain or repair all facility electrical wiring, components, apparatus, control equipment, solid-state boiler control systems, electrical switchgear, electric motors, and electrical-pneumatic control systems, among others.  This includes single phase and three phase circuits up to 480 volts nominal.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications.
  • Perform Critical Systems Operations duties, troubleshoot equipment, and process problems with the ability to resolve quickly and correctly.  Expedite repairs through a hands-on approach and by allocating the department's physical and personnel resources.
  • Execute the installation, preventive maintenance, emergency repairs and modifications/upgrades of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronic, and support mechanical systems related to Utilities and Freeze Dryers in support of Manufacturing schedules. 
  • Assist and consult other technicians on technical issues used in troubleshooting equipment.
  • Ensure cGMP guidelines, safety procedures, and SOP's are followed at all times. 
  • Maintain a clean work area adhering to good housekeeping practices. 
  • Train and instruct, per SOP's and related documents, technicians in the maintenance and operation of equipment and all other job functions within assigned areas under the guidance of Maintenance management.
  • Collaboratively work with the maintenance organization and maintenance leadership team.
  • Effectively communicate with groups outside of maintenance, such as production, quality and technical personnel.
  • Complete logbooks, PM's, and work orders, ensuring all entries are complete and correct.
  • Assist Maintenance management with recommendations pertaining to equipment upgrades, maintenance, enhancements, analysis of operation parameters of equipment and processes, and other requirements to support a highly functioning manufacturing operation.
  • Support smooth execution of projects within utilities,  production and packaging areas, ensuring that all systems maintain their validated state.
  • Support the implementation of change controls and provide electrical subject matter expertise during investigations related to process equipment and systems.


  • Current California Electrician License strongly preferred.
  • High school / GED education or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an electrician in an Industrial environment with competence in electrical Systems including lighting, controls systems and equipment up to 480 volts AC required.
  • Experience with industrial buss bar, cable trays, motor control centers, disconnects, transfer switches, etc.
  • Understanding of applicable electrical codes and best Maintenance practices.
  • Awareness of NFPA70E and arc flash boundary zones and associated PPE.
  • Understanding of OHM’s Law and basic electrical principles.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, electrical drawings and labeled energized equipment.
  • Proficient in LOTO and safely testing electrical apparatus with amp probes, voltage testers, etc.
  • Computer skills including MS Windows: Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Effective oral/written communication skills in English with the ability to interface with all levels.
  • Thorough and attentive to details.
  • Possess a team-oriented approach with a passion for excellence.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to lift loads up to 50 lbs.
  • A.A. or A.S. degree or vocational courses in areas such as welding, HVAC, mechanics, electrical, control systems preferred.
  • 3 years’ experience within Pharmaceutical manufacturing or similar cGMP environment strongly preferred. 
  • Knowledge of cGMPs, change control processes, FDA-regulated industry documentation practices, electronic database packages (e.g., CMMS/EAM, etc.), is desired.
