The opportunity
The Head of Engineering & Maintenance will be responsible for leading and overseeing the engineering operations in our complex manufacturing site in Haarlem. This role requires a strategic leader with in-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing, regulatory compliance, and engineering best practices. The individual will drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, ensure efficient and reliable functioning of the technical equipment and installations of the entire factory, and ensure engineering teams operate with high standards of quality and efficiency. The Head of Engineering & Maintenance will collaborate with cross-functional teams to align engineering strategies with organizational goals.
How you’ll spend your day
Leadership & Strategy
• Lead and mentor a diverse team, ensuring a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Identify, develop and retain qualified people to provide Engineering and Maintenance Services
• Take an active role in promoting cross-site initiatives, teamwork and collaboration across site’s functions
• Develop and execute the engineering strategy to align with the company’s objectives and long-term vision.
• Provide direction and oversight for the engineering department’s budget, staffing, and project management.
Engineering Excellence
• Maintain all production equipment, facilities and utilities in an effective operating and compliant state.
• Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), FDA regulations, and other relevant industry standards.
• Foster a culture of engineering excellence by implementing best practices in process optimization, maintenance, and reliability.
• Initiate and lead introduction of new assets, equipment and systems that will contribute to the business strategic direction, in accordance with approved change control procedures.
• Serve as the main Teva representative in communication with suppliers, subcontractors and planning firms regarding the site’s assets, equipment, systems and maintenance services. Supervise their activity to ensure efficient and effective work and to ensure Teva’s business interests and global agreements and standards are well kept.
Cross-functional Collaboration
• Work closely with other departments (Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, EHS) to ensure engineering solutions align with business goals.
• Implement global best practices and actively share knowledge and lessons learned to contribute and support on high professional level of engineering globally.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
• Drive the implementation of new technologies and innovative engineering solutions to enhance productivity and reduce costs in manufacturing.
• Drive Continues Improvement to meet world class manufacturing standards using Operational Excellence principles while continuously developing Engineering best practices
Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
• Ensure engineering processes are compliant with regulatory requirements (e.g., cGMP, ISO standards, FDA, EMA) and quality management systems.
• Participate in audits, inspections by regulatory agencies to ensure adherence to required standards.
Project Management & Execution
• Manage engineering projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet all operational requirements.
• Establish and maintain clear timelines, milestones, and KPIs for all engineering projects.
Team Development & Talent Management
• Build a high-performing engineering team through recruitment, training, performance management, and professional development initiatives.
• Lead by example, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment that encourages growth and innovation.
Your experience and qualifications
Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in leading Engineering teams in a highly regulated industry. Aseptic Pharma experience is strongly preferred
• Experience in managing Capital and Operational expenses
• Adequate experience in maintenance in a relevant industrial production environment like chemical and pharmaceutical production, preferred knowledge of GMP and EH&S local regulations.
Skills & Knowledge:
• Strong technical expertise in Maintenance, Facility and Utility systems.
• Knowledge in Continues Improvement, Good Engineering Practices and adequate financial knowledge
• Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a focus on team development and performance management.
• Exceptional project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong knowledge of industry regulations and quality standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with senior executives and external stakeholders.
• fluent in English, Dutch represents an asset
