The opportunity

As The European Regional Medical Excellence & Capabilities Lead, you will be responsible for driving medical excellence, enabling high-performing MSL teams, best in class external engagement, and capability-building across the region. This role is critical for ensuring successful innovative product launches in Europe, elevating the impact of Medical Affairs function. 

Location

This role will be based in Haarlem, Netherlands.

How you’ll spend your day

  • Building a world class, highly capable and high performing European MSL team. Develop stretch qualitative and quantitative KPIs and capability building projects on a yearly basis.
  • Provide virtual leadership to country MSL teams, guiding them on scientific engagement quality, medical insights generation, field planning, and strategic execution.
  • Design and execute tailored capability-building programs to strengthen medical expertise across countries, including MSLs, Medical Advisors, and Medical Leads.
  • Has a deep understanding of Big 5 European countries payer landscape and develops country level early mapping and external engagement plans for MSLs accordingly. Enable the country MSL teams  to provides timely input to innovative pipeline product development at phase II level, to ensure European requirements are reflected in study protocols.
  • Driving Results: High performance mindset, able to set stretch KPIs and deliver, act to surpass goals. Set continually higher KPIs that are ambitious but realistic for self and MSL team, aligned with organizational strategic objectives.
  • Responsibility for delivery of EU Medical Dashboard and associated metrics with cross-functional teams by timely collection, reporting and aligned interpretation of performance metrics and key activities of the extended Medical department
  • Development and local implementation of new tools & systems (CRM, Copy approval, Dashboards, financial reporting, SOPs, WIs, Policies)
  • Compliance, Governance & Ethical Accountability: You will ensure that Medical Affairs activities across Europe are conducted with the highest ethical and scientific standards. This includes strict adherence to internal policies, SOPs, and European regulatory and industry codes (e.g., EFPIA). You will proactively identify risks, address compliance concerns early, and guide teams to ensure consistent understanding and application of compliant behaviors. You will promote a culture of integrity, transparency, and patient-centered decision-making in all interaction

Your experience and qualifications

  • Advanced life sciences degree (MD, PharmD, PhD or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 7-10+ years of experience in the medical affairs function, including people management experience.
  • Proven track record of leading innovative product launches in Europe within Medical Affairs
  • Direct experience supporting or leading Medical Affairs launch activities, including scientific communications, MSL readiness, expert engagement, market access projects and launch planning.
  • Experience in coaching and enabling MSL teams, KPI
  • Flexibility to travel across Europe for field visits with MSLs and expert engagements.
  • Strong collaboration skills: Able to build trust and positive relationships with colleagues. Able to establish a strong culture of cross functional collaboration and partnership.
  • Has leadership humility, a respectful listener, empathetic and humble leader, works passionately for the purpose and creates a great sense of purpose and collaboration within the team.
  • Passionate and works with “I can do it attitude”, and strongly inspires the team for a ‘we can do it attitude”
  • Deep understanding of the European healthcare landscape, compliance environment, and medical governance.
