Job Description

Manages the maintenance and repair activities of a buildings, utility facilities and equipment such as electric power supply, domestic and processed waters supply and treatment, fire protection waste water treatment, steam generation, compressed air, refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation including all mechanical, electrical and electronic systems in the production machinery.  Manages all activities and programs related to environmental, health and (safety EHS) for the Fajardo  Site Puerto Rico Operations following the overall guidelines of local and corporate policies and objectives.  


  • Hires, trains and motivates supervisory and non supervisory colleagues.
  • Responsible of strengthening colleagues' morale through effective application of Human Resources programs, policies and procedures, wage and salary administration, environmental, safety and career development.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual budget for Engineering and Maintenance Department section.
  • Assures that all aspects related to the fixed assets procedures are followed and records are kept regarding additions of equipment or charges such as relocation, transfers, replacement and retirement of equipment.
  • Assists in the preparation of capital plan projects.
  • Assures that all TEVA federal and commonwealth, safety, health and environmental control programs, policies and practice are effectively administered to maximize adequacy of Plant operations.
  • Manages layout design and implementation of plant development engineering projects.
  • Directs the perpetual inventory control record system for spare parts and maintenance supplies to assure prompt maintenance and repairs.
  • Applies theory, principles and good practice of mechanical and electrical engineering to test machinery and equipment.
  • Coordinates the surplus equipment of the Fajardo location.
  • Coordinates contracts with outside contractor in accordance with bidding procedures and company policies.
  • Directs the organization of project to be implemented during shutdown period in order to minimize interference whit schedule production time. 
  • Develops, implements, and controls quality improvement projects. 
  • Establishes and updates the Plants Environmental, Safety and Industrial Hygiene Audits Program.    
  • Points out sub-standard conditions and practices and recommends action plans to manage them.
  • Participates in the prompt and thorough investigation of major incidents, accidents, fires, property losses, and damages to determine cause (s) and costs for the implementation of corrective actions resulted from the Accident Report findings and recommendations.  
  • Analyzes and prepares injury/illness statistics and identifies priorities.
  • Audits the Internal Work Permit Program (welding, cutting, confined space entry, and others), and assists plant management to assure the related procedures are maintained and followed by colleagues/temporaries/and contractors.
  • Updates plant SOP's and preventive maintenance forms and procedures under evaluation.
  • Audits the fire system inspection and testing practices and their records.  



  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
  • Master’s degree desirable. 


  • Eight (8) years of progressive Pharmaceutical Operations experience in all areas of the function, including six (6) years of exposure to supervision.
  •  Four (4) years experience in plant and/or project engineering.   


Language and Communication Skills

  • Fully bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Requires reading professional literature and technical manuals; speaking to groups of employees, other public and private groups; writing documents and complex reports in English and Spanish.  


Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Computer knowledge, including word processing, presentation, worksheets and electronic mail
  • Ability to motivate and lead personnel to accomplish plant objectives
  • Knowledge of principles and processes involved in business and organizational planning, budgeting, coordination and execution
  • Thorough knowledge of cGMP’s and FDA regulations
