Job Description

Summary: Under general supervision, assures proactive compliance with federal, state and local environmental and occupational safety regulatory requirements through creation, implementation and auditing for compliance-related Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and administration of assigned programs in coordination with other functional areas.

  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and state, federal and local laws.
  • Interprets and evaluates Safety Data Sheets for the Company’s materials and products.
  • Writes and maintains an approved procedure that describes the SDS development process including the format and method for ensuring regulatory compliance.
  •  Plans and implements all Reviews for new drug compound with the final completion step will be accomplished through close coordination with other members of the Environmental Health and Safety Team.
  • Coordinates the significant Hazard Communication project elements.
  • Maintains Occupational Health program, including industrial hygiene sampling.
  • Assists in emergency response drills and activities as required. Maintains and manages associated emergency response plans.
  • Performs incident investigations and enters findings and coordinates with Workers Comp program.
  • Administers Compliance Auditing Internal Programs and maintains routine hazardous identification inspections.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge and Skills:

    Knowledge of:

  • Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Principles of safety, workers' compensation and related principles and practices.
  • English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Federal, state, and local regulations relative to environment, health, and safety (OSHA, EPA, FL DEP, etc.). 
  • Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) requirements and guidelines.
  • Company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations.
  • Training and presentation skills, techniques, applications and practices.
  • Business and personal computer hardware and software applications.


Skill in:

  • Implementing goals, objectives and practices for effective, efficient and cost effective management of allocated resources.
  • Writing, preparing and presenting safety related regulatory programs.
  • Preparing clear and concise reports and/or proposals related to safety and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, and implementing recommendations in support of Company safety goals and objectives.
  • Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with all levels personnel.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Operating a personal computer, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ensuring compliance with all Company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations.
  • Developing and delivering training of all levels of personnel in the areas of safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Supervising safety activities and motivating employees maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Self-starter; Results driven; Anticipate/initiates and implements solutions. 
  • Adheres to professional standards and company code of conduct.
  • Must be comfortable in a fast paced environment

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:  Requires the ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, stoop, lift, physically access all internal and external areas of the facility, use office equipment such as a personal computer, copier and fax machines, and communicate via telephone, frequently conduct safety tours in all areas of the facilities. Noise levels in this environment may vary depending upon machinery being used. Requires the ability to wear variety of PPE up to and including full protective suits and respiratory protection. Requires ability to lift objects from 50 to 70 lbs. Requires ability to push, pull, maneuver, shift items of a hazardous nature weighing between 100-400lbs using mechanical means. Exposure to hazardous situations as would encounter in an emergency response for environmental or medical emergencies. Will be required to utilize their own vehicle to deliver or pick up materials locally.  Exposed to noisy equipment and hazardous environments. Required to be on call 24 hours for emergency response needs.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of safety and regulatory compliance experience, preferably in food, drug or cosmetic industry. CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) and/or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certificates desired

20% travel to different Florida locates with scheduling flexibility to cover different work shifts as necessary.
