Job Description

The Chemist II will actively participate as a team member supporting the routine and non-routine testing of drug products and raw materials into the QC Laboratory. The Chemist performs analytical bench chemistry according to established compendia and vendor specifications to include process validation of batches for submission and method validation. The ideal candidate will have strong problem solving and analytical capabilities and must be able to work independently to achieve team goals and milestones.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform analyses and tests of drug products, raw materials, in-process materials, release test samples or stability samples, packaging materials, quantitative assays on samples, and/or finished products from manufacturing, to ensure quality standards and compliance with established specifications
  • Perform qualitative tests on samples using techniques that vary from standard analytical equipment to modern and automated instrumentation
  • Perform method transfers and verifications
  • Utilize LIMS and Empower for acquisition and processing of analytical data
  • Execute assigned projects, analytical testing and related documentation in a timely manner
  • Serve as mentor for junior analysts within the team
  • Stay current on new requirements and make recommendations that affect area of expertise
  • Promote Quality and GMP by analyzing the implications of deviations, and implement solutions under guidance
  • Provide feedback on systems and processes to promote improvement and champion select changes
  • Participate in daily huddles to provide feedback on daily/weekly/monthly objectives
  • Troubleshoot problems encountered with methods and instruments
  • Apply root cause problem solving principles for identification and implementation of effective corrective and preventive actions



  • Bachelor's Degree in chemistry or other science related discipline required
  • At least five (5) years of Quality Control experience required
  • At lest two (2) years of experience in a pharmaceutical environment required
  • Ability to run and troubleshoot new chromatographic procedures
  • At least two (2) years of HPLC experience required and experience with UPLC is a plus
  • Knowledge of USP, cGMP, ICH, and FDA guidelines
  • Ability to independently solve analytical problems
