Job Description

The General Counsel Europe is responsible for the overall legal oversight in the European region, managing the European legal team. The General Counsel Europe acts as the Legal Guardian, Business Partner and Value Creator, managing the provision of sound legal advice to ensure legal compliance in the realisation of Teva’s business objectives.

The European Commercial Legal team operates as a united team with lawyers with different backgrounds, expertise and coming from various countries and are all fully committed to working as one team to provide the best legal support to our business partners and stakeholders in Europe.

The European legal team consists of general counsels responsible for a country or cluster and regional general counsels with a specific expertise: Competition, Corporate and Transactions, Employment, EU Commercial and Data Privacy & Cyber.

Key Responsibilities

  • Member of the European Commercial Leadership Team and the Global Legal Leadership Team;
  • Responsible for overall legal oversight in the European region;
  • Managing the European Legal Team supporting the commercial organizations, as well as the manufacturing and R&D sites.
  • Management responsibility for over 50 employees within the legal function;
  • Responsible for all relevant areas of legal practice: advisory, transactions, governance, litigation, investigations, training, risk management and external advocacy.
  • Ensure effective collaboration and influence across the matrix model (commercial & legal), and closely collaborate with other relevant stakeholder functions (e.g. Compliance, Market Access, BD, Regulatory, Medical and other legal teams);
  • Contribute to building business partner role of entire legal group, foster creativity and entrepreneurial mind set to create opportunities for the business;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, as well as with Teva global and local policies; 
  • Oversight of Teva’s material litigation and government investigations in the region;
  • Manage the European legal budget in order to ensure efficient and proper performance in line with Teva’s strategy;
  • Manage and support Teva’s external legal advisers;
  • Representing Teva in external networking communities, such as EFPIA and MfE, to ensure best practice modelling, identification of legal and industry trends, and benchmarking; and
  • Acting as the Corporate Secretary to the Management Board of Teva Pharmaceuticals Europe B.V., Teva's main holding company


  • Law degree and (preferably) bar admittance in one EU jurisdiction;


Experience & Expertise:

  • >15 years’ experience:
  • In-house counsel, for a region, a large affiliate or cluster of smaller markets in a multinational pharmaceutical company; or in private practice, leading an international team
  • Solid knowledge of pharmaceutical industry (pharmaceutical or biotech industry) and its dynamic and customer needs;
  • Extensive experience in counselling senior business leaders in pharma related matters, including
  • transactions, sales, marketing, medical, supply chain, market access, tenders and general risk management;
  • Management of complex litigation and government investigations;
  • Basic understanding of competition, governance, data privacy and patent litigation
